How to Verify a Peptide Supplier
Anyone can put up a website and print "≥99% purity" on a product page. The difference between a supplier you can trust and one you can't isn't the claims — it's whether those claims are verifiable. This is a practical checklist for vetting a research peptide supplier before you order, built around the things that can actually be checked rather than the things that are merely stated.
Why verification matters
A research result is only as reliable as the material behind it. If you can't confirm what's in the vial — its identity, its purity, its traceability — then any work built on it rests on an assumption. Verification replaces that assumption with evidence.
The checklist
Work through these before committing to a supplier. The more they satisfy, the more confidence you can place in the material.
- Third-party Certificate of Analysis. Does each product come with a COA from an independent lab — not just an in-house claim? A tester with no stake in the sale is the stronger signal.
- Batch-code traceability. Can you match the COA to the batch or lot code printed on the vial? A certificate that can't be tied to your specific vial proves little.
- Purity, identity, and content. Does the COA report HPLC purity and a mass-spec identity confirmation and net peptide content — not just a lone percentage? (See our guide on what ≥99% actually means.)
- Transparency. Are testing, sourcing, and policies openly published, or is the site all marketing and no substance?
- Clear research-use framing. Responsible suppliers make no human-use or benefit claims and label strictly for laboratory research. Over-the-top health promises are a red flag, not a selling point.
- Business legitimacy. Is there a real, identifiable company behind it — a corporate identity, a location, working contact, sensible shipping? For Canadian buyers, a domestic supplier also means faster, simpler delivery.
Ask for a COA and check whether its batch code matches the vial. A supplier who lets you verify that connection is handing you something you can check. One who can't — or won't — is asking for your trust without earning it.
