What are research peptides?

Research peptides are short chains of amino acids produced synthetically for use in scientific and laboratory research. What does “research use only” mean?

“Research use only” means a compound is sold and intended solely for in-vitro laboratory and scientific research — experiments conducted outside a living organism, such as in a test tube or culture dish. It is not for human consumption, self-administration, therapeutic use, or administration to any living organism, and is not approved by Health Canada for human use.

Are research peptides legal in Canada?

In Canada, drugs intended for human use are regulated under the Food and Drugs Act and generally require Health Canada authorization. Many research peptides are not approved for human use and are therefore sold and labelled strictly for in-vitro laboratory research. What is a Certificate of Analysis (COA)?

A Certificate of Analysis (COA) is a laboratory document that reports what a specific batch of peptide contains: its identity (by mass spectrometry), its purity (by HPLC), its net peptide content, and its batch or lot number. How do I know a peptide's purity is real?

Purity is measured by HPLC and reported as the percentage of detectable material that is the target peptide (for example, ≥99%). A purity figure is only verifiable when it is backed by a batch-specific Certificate of Analysis — ideally third-party — whose batch code matches the vial. What does lyophilized mean?

Lyophilized means freeze-dried. The peptide has had its water removed under vacuum, leaving a stable dry powder that stores well and ships safely. Lyophilized peptides are reconstituted (dissolved back into liquid) before use in the lab. Learn more →

What is bacteriostatic water used for?

Bacteriostatic water is sterile water containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative. The preservative lets a single vial be drawn from repeatedly without microbial growth, which makes it the standard diluent for reconstituting lyophilized research peptides. Learn more →

How should research peptides be stored?

Lyophilized (dry) peptides are most stable kept cold, dry, and dark — typically frozen at -20°C for long-term storage, sealed until needed. Once reconstituted into solution, a peptide is far less stable and should be refrigerated and used within a limited window. Aliquoting before freezing avoids repeated freeze-thaw damage.
